Tantric Myth #2: Tantra and Yoga are Two Different Things

Understand how Tantra, Yoga and practices like meditation are all connected. Learn the two core approaches to spiritual awakening and how Tantra’s approach is the most beneficial for those of us in the modern age.

Prefer to read it? See below:

Hello, it’s Jeff Craft, or Kali Das again! This is the second video in my series on common tantric myths.

Today’s myth is that Tantra and Yoga are two different things.

I will commonly hear people that come to some of my tantric workshops, or tantric meditation groups say things like, “Yes, I practice Yoga in the morning, and then I practice meditation”, or, “I practice Yoga and then I do my Tantra”. These statements imply there is a split or difference. But, even meditation is a part of Yoga practice.

The simple truth to this is that Tantra is actually a form of Yoga, when it is properly understood.

The meaning of “Yoga”, comes from the Sanskrit word means “union”. That is what Yoga means. It references the deeper intention that Yoga has of connecting what we have imagined our individual self to be and creating a union between that individual identity and the more universal consciousness that we could call God, or spirit.

That is where the union comes, that is the Yoga – the yoking of our individual self into this larger experience of consciousness, or God, or divinity, or however you want to call it.

That is what the real idea of what Yoga is. It is a systematic approach of self-evolving, self-awakening, self-healing that leads us from a state of suffering, of feeling separation, of experiencing attachments in the world, and leading us into a deeper space of presence, of love, of peace, that actually evolves from within our own being, within our own heart, within our own consciousness.

Yoga is ultimately connecting us back to the truth of ourselves that we have forgotten about. That is what Yoga is really inviting. Yoga is that process and Tantra actually invites the very same process. It just goes about it in a specific way.

There are lots of different forms of Yoga, but there are two primary approaches to rediscovering and reconnecting with that deeper peace that is our true Self.

The yogic teachings present as the highest outcome that the only thing that really exists is God. We can also call God as “consciousness” because it doesn’t have to be any sort of religious or spiritual idea.  It is ultimately the essence of your True Self we are seeking.

Through Yoga we are trying to discover that. When we fully discover God, which is all that exists, it is the true nature of self as consciousness and awareness. In the process of discovering that the only thing that really exists is God, there are these two tracks, these two basic approaches.

There is a traditional yogic approach, which we could call an ascetic kind of approach. This approach goes about the idea of saying “the only thing that exists is God, God is pure consciousness, and therefore all of the things of the world are not God, because they are not pure consciousness. They are, in fact, illusions.”

This is the idea – a sort of a non-dual approach. The only thing that exists is God, this whole world that we have, and that we have been experiencing is all an illusion. It is this place that causes suffering for us, because we get attached, and therefore to ease the suffering of my being, I am going to reject this illusion, I am going to release all of my attachments. That becomes part of the process.

This is a legitimate path. Although it probably doesn’t appeal to you as you are listening to this, it is a legitimate path. However, it is a very challenging path. This is the kind of path that will lead people for their spiritual practice to abandon their family, go live in a cave, give up all their money and wander the streets begging for food, these types of things, as symbols and intentions around letting go of attachments. That is one particular path.

Tantra is another path or another philosophical approach. What Tantra does is it comes back to the original conclusion, and it says “Yes, the only thing that exists is pure consciousness or God and if that is true, that means that everything that I experience in the world is also pure consciousness, it is also God.”

So, instead of going about the process of rejecting the world, it actually embraces the world as being a sacred experience, an unfolding of the divine consciousness or divine being. Rather than rejecting it, it shows how can we peer beyond the veil and experience the presence of the divine right here in this world, in our bodies, in our food, in nature around us, in other people, in our desires, in our sexual experiences, in our creative endeavors, in our sense of purpose in the work that we do in the world.   It asks “How can we begin to invite our life to become the actual spiritual process? How can the experience of living be converted into a spiritual path?” That is what Tantra really invites us to do.

There are many practices that begin to connect us to deeper presence, deeper embodiment of energies, deeper embodiment of experiences, and invite us to step beyond the limitations and the judgments that we may have for the world around us. We can begin to see the sacredness, to find the beauty, to find the acceptance of what is, and to be fully present and alive in the world.

Tantra ultimately invites us to be as alive, as blissful, as joyful, as loving as possible, while also being as peaceful and relaxed as possible. That becomes the invitation that it has. It is a specific path, a specific form of Yoga, but ultimately leads back to that same place of there being just one God, or one consciousness. It just goes about it through a different path.

What both systems will ultimately agree upon is that once you get to the final conclusion of really seeing and experiencing directly that everything that exists is pure consciousness and God, or that nothing that exists out here in the world is consciousness or God, that once you get to the nothingness or the all, that it all kind of melds into the same thing.

If none of this is God, and you find God beyond that, then you also experience the paradox of everything being God. If you go about the approach of getting there because you are trying to weave everything into being sacred, you get there and everything becomes God, you also again experience the paradox of it not being God at the same time. You get to experience both sides of the same coin operating in truth at the same time.

That is an explanation, a rather deep explanation on the non-dual approaches of Yoga, and how Yoga and Tantra are really the same thing.

As a side note, meditation is deeply, deeply connected to Yoga and Tantra as well. It is not correct to make a distinction between Yoga and meditation – they are both part of one single system. What most people think of as Yoga today, when you hear the average person say, “I’m doing my Yoga, I’m doing my Yoga class”, what they are actually referring to is what would more correctly be Yoga asana, or the postures that are connected to the Hatha Yoga system.

It can be helpful, I think, to make distinctions, at least in your own mind of understanding that all of these techniques, the postures, the breathing practices, the meditation techniques, and various other kinds of approaches to Yoga are all really connected to a single system, including Tantra being part of the yogic process.

That concludes the second of the myth-videos around Tantra, and look for the third one soon!

Namaste.

Tantric Myth #1: Tantra is all about Sex or “Sacred Sexuality”

Understand the original intention of Sexual Practices in Tantra, and how approaching Tantra as ONLY a sexual practice is limiting and a deep misunderstanding. Discover the deeper Sacred Intention.

Prefer to read it? See below:

Hello, this is Jeff Craft, or Kali Das, and I am making a short video for you. This is going to be the first in a series of videos, where in each video I am going to be talking about a common myth that is associated with Tantra. This is the first video, and the first myth that I want to talk about is the idea that Tantra is about sex, or about sacred sexuality.

If we go back and look at the teachings of Tantra – if you look back to the sacred texts that are associated with them, you will notice something surprising. I know I was surprised when I first began to really dive deep into those texts, and the thing that is surprising is that sex is almost never mentioned.

Probably much like yourself, I first learned about Tantra as being a sexual practice as well, focused on creating more pleasure and better orgasms, and more stamina for men, and more pleasure, connection, intimacy, and those types of things. That was the way that it was introduced to me, and when I really started to go study it in a deeper way, I discovered that it was actually hard to find comments or mentions about sexuality in the original texts that are associated with Tantra.

As part of the myth that comes along with this idea of Tantra as sacred sexuality, some practitioners that teach Tantra will also insist that the Kama Sutra is a Tantric book. That really is also a myth. The Kama Sutra discusses lots of other things in addition to sex, but it ultimately is kind of an ancient version of The Joy of Sex. It shows positions and it shows other types of things about seeking pleasure in life.

In the Kama Sutra, there is some talk about there being 64 different arts, and again those tend to come more from Kama Sutra, and other types of cultural references, as opposed to truly being something that is specific to Tantra. It doesn’t mean that we can’t take those things into our tantric practice. We can make the Kama Sutra relevant, we can make the 64 sacred arts relevant to tantric practice, but they are not necessarily what they are often presented to be by some tantric teachers.

We are wanting to understand that these are just little pieces of things. When you dive deep enough, there are a few places in these original texts that do talk about and reference sexuality and rituals involving sexuality. But when you really understand the intention and the implication of why they are doing these sexual rituals, you will understand that there is a completely different context to what it is often associated with Tantra in our current time.

The authentic Tantric rituals that involved sexual activity are actually used as ways to expand ourselves into a deeper connection with divinity, with God. That was ultimately the higher intention of them. People would prepare for these rituals over periods of time so that they were actually not really so focused on the personal pleasure.  Instead, they were focused on using sexual activity as a gateway into the bliss of divine consciousness.

That was really the invitation that it was used for, so it was used with that intention of connecting more deeply to divinity, but not necessarily with the intention of having better orgasms, or having more sex, having more interaction, etc. In fact there are a lot of rules that were laid down about who was really eligible to even interface with these particular activities, and they are probably more restrictive than some of the modern tantric ideas that are associated with sacred sexuality might lead you to believe. There were restrictions on who could interact with who, it was preferred that someone actually interact with their spouse, and not with a stranger. Of course, there were some other things that happened in that as well. It is not 100% black and white, but that is the general idea of it.

So, when we are looking at Tantra, we want to understand that the original intention in those sacred sexual practices, that are truly documented, was a gateway to divinity.

There are literally thousands of other tantric practices that have nothing to do with sexuality at all. Deciding that this one slice, this one sexual practice, is really the whole truth of Tantra is similar to imagining, for instance, that the purpose of Christianity is to drink wine – that practicing Christianity is about drinking wine.

Of course, I am referencing the idea of communion in Christianity. Whether you are Christian or not, you probably know and understand that there is a symbolism that is involved in the sipping of the wine. We are not chugging wine at a communion, we are taking sips. There is an intention of connecting more deeply with what is described as being the “blood of Christ”. To be inviting that intention of a deeper thing, because the wine has been blessed, we are bringing that blessed energy in with the intention of connecting to Christ through the communion process.

If someone came running up to you and telling you that to be a practicing Christian, all you have to do was drink wine, you would, of course, think they were crazy! Understandably so. There is a similar kind of mistake happening around tantric practices, where this one practice has been taken out of context and has been told to us as being the main practice.  The mistaken notion that in Tantra you practice “this sexual thing”, like that’s the focus, and it is skipping over the original intention. There is a sacred intention behind the idea of communion, and there is also originally a sacred intention behind the use of sexual energy when it was used as part of a Tantric practice. But “sex” is not the totality of practice, or even connected to the deeper Intention of Tantra.

That is the end of myth #1. Feel free to make some comments below, and click on the links to my site and check out other things that I have going on, and look for myth #2 coming up soon!

How to Keep Relationships Exciting

Whether you are currently in a relationship or single, you will likely recognize the following if you’ve ever been in a relationship. And even if you are single, understanding this will help prepare you for your next relationship.

It has happened to the best of us. We get into a new relationship. We are excited, thinking we have found “The One”. Things are going great. And then one day, we wake up and realize that our life and relationship has become a little bit boring. Maybe routine.File:Unhappy couple.jpg

We seem to have created routines. Maybe the sex life isn’t as active as it used to be. Maybe we’ve even put on a few pounds.
Certainly there are different versions of “routine”, but you get the idea right?

Sometimes people even mistakenly wonder if they are losing their spark, or falling out of love. You also may realize you still love this person, but you are just confused, thinking “Things use to be so exciting. And now, we just watch TV and eat dinner. What happened?”

How it happens

Now, let’s step back to the beginning of the relationship. If you are like most couples, that “New Love” stage is pretty exciting. You are discovering new things about each other. You are excited to better understand your new found soulmate. You want to know about their passions, their interests and their philosophies on life.

You are attracted to them, and desire the joy of physical connection, pleasure and passion.

You are also inwardly projecting your future together. Imagining your “happily ever after”.

Everything is new, and exciting and you are so high on love.. You feel indestructible and on top of the world.

And then, as time goes on, you better know the other person. You don’t need to hear again about the time your partner won a basketball game, or got drunk at prom.

In the beginning, there was so much undiscovered. And now, there is an inner mental file system labelled “All the things I know about my partner”. It has key memories they have shared. It includes what to expect when you make love. And there is also a slowly building special list of the things your partner does that irritates you.

And as you begin to feel more and more that you “know your partner”, you become less curious. And you begin to operate off of what you already know.

And as you do this, the level of excitement and the spark begins to lessen. And one day, you find yourself living in a routine where it’s rare that anything new and exciting is discovered or experienced.

But the routine becomes comfortable. So, at first it feels like stability and safety. Until the day it starts to feel restrictive. Until the day you start to wonder if something is wrong. Until the day some impulse inside you wants to find excitement again, and you struggle to figure out how to make it happen without upsetting the stability of the relationship.

The Key to Exciting Relationships is not intuitive.

What has frequently happened below the surface, is we have learned that the other person is a certain way. And they have learned we are a certain way. And we become acutely aware of trying to remain the person that our partner loves.

One common fear is that “if I change, he or she won’t love me anymore.” It’s not rational. And it may not even be conscious. But, there comes an unspoken agreement that “we need to keep things and ourselves the same so we are stable.  I may lose you if I change.”

And this is where the trouble begins.

The nature of life is to grow, evolve and change. When we conspire against the natural order and try to keep things too consistent then we stagnate. And we also become afraid of anything that is unexpected or too far from our comfort zone. In this way of experiencing things, change brings fear. And in order to avoid fear, we cling to routine and the expected. Because change is threatening to “safe and comfortable”.

But when we do this, our Soul suffers. In order to not grow and change, we must pretend that our desires, passions, hopes, dreams and basic unmet needs don’t exist. We have to ignore our disappointments, not feel our inner sadness, or anger or frustration. We must disconnect from our own Inner Truth in order to keep things “safe”.

This is a problem for two reasons.

For one, you suffer. Life loses its passion. You sacrifice excitement for safety.

And two, your partner also suffers. Life loses its passion for your partner as well and he or she sacrifices excitement for safety.

So what is the path out? What’s the path back to excitement in a relationship that also honors the needs of both people to create some stability in the relationship?

Let’s go back to the early stage of relationship for a clue. You were both excited to discover new things about the other, and to learn everything you can about the other. You were both excited to experience the “newness” of what is undiscovered and possible in the new relationship.

engagement, couple, romanceWhat would happen if you were excited to discover new things about your partner again? What would happen if within the familiarity, trust and stability of a loving relationship, you both also focused on growing, evolving and experiencing new things?

What if you set aside that fear of change, and decided to follow your heart’s desire towards a new adventure, new career, new hobby, or new course of study?

What if you risked stability and shared your inner fears instead of ignoring them?  What if you uprooted the limiting beliefs that had kept you feeling small, afraid and insecure and replaced them with confidence, radiant self-love and passion for life?

And what if your partner also did the same?

As you allow yourself to grow, to evolve and to connect with your Soul’s inner truth, life reawakens. Vibrancy and excitement returns to you.  Clarity dawns and you find yourself enthusiastically in the flow of life again.  Life IS Change, Growth and Transformation.

And as your partner also chooses to grow and evolve, the same happens for him or her.

And here’s the bonus: As your partner is growing and evolving, he or she is discovering new passions, new potentials, new experiences, new levels of success and new capacities for love, excitement, joy and aliveness. This means that as your partner grows and changes, you get to re-discover new things about your partner on an ongoing basis. Instead of thinking “I know everything about my partner”, you welcome discovering new things about them as they share their inner world and new adventures with you. Just like in the earlier, exciting stage of relationship you get to discover new things about your partner on a regular basis again.

And of course, your partner gets the excitement of rediscovering the new versions of you that evolve over time as well.

You get to support each other through the process. You get to share in the excitement of new levels of joy, freedom and success that you partner achieves. You get to watch the person you love blossom and flower into an even happier, more vibrant person.

The experience of life and relationship becomes exciting again.  If you are both evolving and enjoying life, you infuse your relationship with the excitement and aliveness that it brings.

Here is the nutshell overview: By committing to a process of growth, healing and self discovery, you will bring passion back into your life. If you commit to this with your partner, you both reawaken passion for life. And that passion for life is brought into the relationship, which feeds the relationship. Plus you also get the excitement of experience both life and your partner as something which is evolving and transforming, rather than “static”. All within the safety and trust of a loving relationship.

So the unintuitive way to keep your relationship exciting, is actually for both partners to give attention to their own individual growth. To keep allowing yourself to imagine even higher potentials of success, love, adventure, purpose, abundance and joy, and then using the methods and healing practices that will help you keep evolving.

As you do this, you get your own exciting individual journey, and you also get to share the excitement of watching your partner grow as you offer support.

Of course, as the passion returns, you will find some common experiences to share together also.  It will feed the relationship one way or another.

So, how do you go about the process of growth, healing and self discovery?

Awakening Your Inner Power | New Moon in Scorpio | Vedic Astrology Forecast for November 29, 2016

New Moon in scorpioDuring the Morning of November 29th, the New Moon will occur in the sign of Sidereal Scorpio. The New Moon is when the Sun and Moon are in the same degree of the same area of the sky, and it marks the beginning of a new Lunar cycle.

The Sun represents our personal power and sense of self identity, and the moon represents our mind, emotional heart and capacity to feel. And Scorpio is a sign where we are learning to strengthen our emotional self.

Scorpio is ruled by Mars, which is our courage and strength. And Scorpio is also a water sign, which reveals its connection to our Emotional nature. Scorpio teaches us to develop our strength and courage by learning to face fears, insecurities and the hidden parts of our selves. When we face with the mindset of accepting rather than rejecting we integrate them, and the emotional and psychic energy that was previously used to push these things away or reject them becomes available to use in more positive ways.

Scorpio is a sign of transformation, where we face the ups and downs of life and our own inner nature. Through Scorpio’s influence, we learn that when life brings us challenges and conflicts that it is really an invitation to grow, heal and evolve.

With Mars itself in Capricorn right now, we are given extra support to use our strength and courage in committed and disciplined ways. While the New Moon itself invites the process of facing our fears and hidden nature.

You may notice many opportunities to grow, to transform and to heal at this time. But it’s important that you be paying attention to recognize the invitation. If you aren’t paying attention, then it may simply feel like conflict, insecurity and emotional pain.  You may even act out some of the shadow or hidden parts of your inner nature.

Saturn is still in Scorpio, which brings added influence around bringing up fears. But it also has been doing the work of teaching us how to commit to this process of growth and transformation.

This New Moon plants the seed into our hearts and minds to explore this process of transformation through facing our fears and embracing our hidden nature, the dark or shadow parts of our psyche.

Mercury and Venus are both in Sagittarius right now. Mercury here will support our speech, communication and intellectual curiosity to be connected to inspiration, hope and a desire for higher teachings and wisdom. And Venus here will connect our capacity for happiness with higher teachings and principles as well.

Through the arrangement of Sun, Moon and Saturn in Scorpio, Venus and Mercury in Sagittarius and Mars in Capricorn, there is a strong bridge of change and inspiration occurring. As we face fears and disappointments in Scorpio, we are inspired to seek higher truth and meaning for our lives in Sagittarius. And Capricorn invites us to explore the level of commitment and responsibility we are willing to take on to put our principles into action in the world.

Out of the darkness and pain of Scorpio arises the inspiration to seek deeper meaning in the world beyond our individual suffering. Scorpio becomes a transformational cauldron that changes the inner vibrations of our emotional heart and our subconscious desires in order to support a higher vision for our life.

During this time, I suggest you pay special attention to the conflicts, the challenges and the painful experiences that arise. And try to remember they are invitations to healing and to grow. Rather than resisting your inner discomfort, be willing to sit with it. Smile at it. Get to know it.

Be willing to sit with the unknown and the parts of yourself that live in the shadows that you have not yet fully understood or accepted. Your presence to simply be with all of this without judgement will infuse acceptance and love into these places within you, which helps to heal them and weave them back into your experience of Wholeness.

The energy released and freed up from this process can then be directed into greater strength and positive potential in the world. It allows you to literally raise your vibration and become more confident, joyful and vibrant in the world.

This process happening in Scorpio is really the place where Tantra begins. Discovering our hidden power, transforming our fears and insecurities into strengths and consciously shifting our vibration into higher and higher states. This is the path of Conscious Evolution and Growth, or Tantra.

What are you noticing in your life and around you in relationship to these themes?

The above is a general Vedic Astrology Forecast. It discusses the shifts that are happening at the level of the Collective experience, as well as how you can use that Collective energy for your own growth and evolution.

Finding Balance Through Letting Go | Full Moon in Pisces | Vedic Astrology Forecast for October 16th, 2016

moon, water, mystical

The current Lunar cycle began with the New Moon in Virgo on October 1st. This cycle invites a focus on the details of our lives that we need to manage and pay attention to in order to create greater health and happiness. This includes exploring the details of diet, sleep routines, digestion, daily routines, and the organization (or lack thereof) we use for setting goals and accomplishing them.

Early morning on October 16th, the Full Moon in Pisces will represent the midpoint of this cycle. Where Virgo represents the intelligent exploration of details, patterns and routines, Pisces is an invitation to let go and surrender.

On one hand, it reminds us that we must find a balance between “the details” and “the big picture”. Obsessing over details can create stress, tension and anxiety. So, first, we need to find the balance. How can we focus on the details while also keeping an open enough perspective we don’t get caught in them? This is in many ways a repeated theme from the Lunar eclipse in Pisces that occurred a month ago.

As part of the current Lunar cycle, it is also about managing the choices we make around our life, daily routines and health. After looking over all these details around health and how we manage our “kingdom” of life, we must also acknowledge at some point that we can’t do everything that is possible. We must narrow things down and select only the best, most effective and impactful choices for us. Pisces as the balance point invites us to begin to surrender and let go of the choices and options that are the lesser or bad choices.

In Virgo, part of the stress itself can actually come from too many choices and not being sure which path to take. Pisces, its opposite and balancing force, is about endings and completions. Letting go and surrender. So, at this time, there may be a process which is revealing what needs to be let go of. This may happen by conscious awareness of seeing that one path feels promising while the other is beginning to reveal its weaknesses and its lack of passion.

Or, if we aren’t consciously paying attention, then the Pisces energy may simply take some of our options away. They will no longer be available to us, and what remains will be the choice that remains.

With Jupiter and Mercury with the Sun in Virgo, they will bring extra grace and discrimination into our soul’s power and the ego’s exploration of these details.

Venus has recently joined Saturn in Scorpio, where our sense of happiness and our personal relationships may begin to feel some pressure. And Scorpio will bring our deeper insecurities to the surface. So if you find yourself experiencing discomfort in your relationships, slow down and use it as an opportunity to heal the inner causes of pain and conflict.

As you look at these influences in your inner and out life, notice what is showing up. What are you ready to let go of? Which details and routines should be kept?

The above is a general Vedic Astrology Forecast. It discusses the shifts that are happening at the level of the Collective experience, as well as how you can use that Collective energy for your own growth and evolution.

Managing your Health and Life | New Moon in Virgo | Vedic Astrology Forecast for September 30th, 2016

new moon, moon

The New Moon in Sidereal Virgo will occur on September 20thm 2016 around 8:30pm EDT. This begins a new Lunar cycle which will have us focusing on managing the details of our lives.

In Virgo, we experience Mercury operating through the practical nature of Earth. Mercury uses its intelligence to understand and organize the details of the world around us. This also includes our bodies and our health.

The New Moon brings together our Power (Sun) and our emotional heart and mind (moon) in connection with these Virgo themes. Jupiter as our wisdom, inspired purpose and higher teachings is very close to the Sun and Moon, sharing it’s expansive and optimistic nature.

Now is a good time to take inventory of your health and your daily routines to determine what best serves your happiness, health and success. With Jupiter’s presence, there is added support to better care for the body and your physical environment with a higher intention of honoring the Sacredness of the body and the physical experience if you so choose.

Either way, honestly assess your diet, your exercise routine, your sleep and the daily activities your pursue to determine what is supporting your body, health and happiness and what may be throwing it out of balance or adding stress to the body.

Virgo energy has a nervousness to it that can bring stress and anxiety to the nervous system and mind. It is helpful to connect to the dutiful nature of Virgo in order to take the actions needed to best care for yourself and your body, but try not to get so caught in the details or in the worry over your health that it just adds more stress. How can support yourself in relaxing and being more peaceful while also making better choices?

As we are beginning to move into Fall, the Virgo New Moon is even more supportive of making a conscious transition. Fall moving into Winter brings more Cold and Dry qualities, which can dry the skin, dry out the sinuses and aggravate the nervous system. This dry and cold quality in Ayurveda is referred to as Vata. Now would be a great time to get an Ayurvedic Consultation to support both this heightened awareness of managing your health and also the transition into Vata season.

These themes around health and managing your life will be in effect for the next 30 days. And they are also reflected in the collective as the need to manage the health of our nations and our people. This includes literal healthcare, but also the health of our government structures and political systems.

Venus has recently moved into Libra where it heightens our awareness of Relationships, compromise and our desire to seek happiness through our social and romantic connections to others. So, you may have greater awareness or greater desire around relationship and social happiness.

Mars also moved into Sagittarius, which brings enthusiasm, optimism and a sense of higher purpose into our actions and the principles that we choose to defend. This is another indicator that finding a deeper meaning or purpose for managing your health and daily routines may strengthen your motivation and willingness to take action.

So, take some time to reflect on your health, your diet, and sleep. Also, observe how your daily routines may or may not be impacting your health and happiness. Consider getting an Ayurvedic Consultation to help support and coach you around health and daily routines.

And also be curious to see how these themes are showing up in your own life, in the lives of those around you, and in the world.

The above is a general Vedic Astrology Forecast. It discusses the shifts that are happening at the level of the Collective experience, as well as how you can use that Collective energy for your own growth and evolution.

Balancing Daily Life with Inner Peace | Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces | Vedic Astrology Forecast for September 16th, 2016

moon, full-moon, eclipse

The peak of the Lunar Eclipse in Pisces will occur around 3pm on September 16th, 2016. This is shortly after the Moon enters sidereal Pisces, which shows the eclipse energy itself began with the moon in Aquarius. And the Sun had just entered Virgo about 7 hours prior.

This shows that our Power and soul (Sun) are seeking ways to create practical plans and steps to bring our creative inspiration into form. And our Mind and Emotional heart (Moon) are carrying our higher goals, ambitions and our desire to serve others into greater Universal compassion and surrender.

Ketu, or the South Node, will bring a stronger influence of letting go and falling away. Pisces is a sign of endings, and Ketu eclipsing the Moon will strengthen the letting go of the old and the outdated.

So, we find ourselves at a turning point with this eclipse. Our past goals may be falling away. Either they didn’t bring the level of satisfaction and happiness we imagined, or perhaps they weren’t practical and didn’t work.  Either way, we are needing to let go.

This is like a reset point, and as the Moon continues its journey past the eclipse it will let go of the past and prepare for a new cycle of growth.

The Sun is joining Jupiter and Venus in Virgo, showing our Power (Sun) connecting to our Higher principles, teachings (Jupiter) and our capacity for Happiness (Venus). Virgo brings about a practical plan to express these things into the world. Jupiter will support with hope and optimism and the expansion of practical steps that are needed to bring about positive changes and growth.  It will also encourage our plans to be based upon our higher teachings and deeper sense of meaning and purpose.

Venus in Virgo has the possibility of becoming too picky, however. So we want to be mindful that we don’t make our vision of happiness so rigid and specific that we find fault in other possible opportunities for happiness and positive steps for change. Because Venus is also an indicator for relationships in general, be aware of any feelings of dissatisfaction within your personal relationships and be willing to ask yourself if you are just placing too many expectations upon the ways you are wanting happiness and pleasure to show up for you right now.

Fortunately, the Moon in is Pisces at this time, which helps to bring a natural balance to the detail oriented, hard working and practical nature of Virgo. It reminds us to balance the practical with the ability to also let go and allow the mind to turn away from the stress of the daily world. How can we find a balance between our responsibilities in the world and our inner desire to relax, let go and feel deep inner freedom and peace?

That question becomes an important theme for this Eclipse. And it will reverberate for many months to come. When we become too focused or obsessed with the managing the details of life, it brings about anxiety and stress instead of order and positive support.  How do we find the balance?

So, what have you been feeling pressured by? Where has life become stressful? What worries have you been focusing on that it may be time to let go of or at least take a break from?

When we are caught in the details, it can be helpful to pull back and look at the big picture again. Moon in Pisces helps us let go and see the big picture. Many things we worry about are beyond our control. It may be time to assess what is causing you stress and ask “am I really able to change this?” If you can’t change it, then it is time to let it go during this eclipse window. And if you can change it, and it IS important, then it’s also time to step away from in so you can rest and relax your mind.

Perhaps a short day trip. Or a day at the spa. Or even just a day of doing nothing would be helpful.

Assess where you have been, what has worked and what hasn’t worked. Be willing to ask yourself where your goals and ambitions have shifted. Then take some time to reconnect with your deeper inner nature of love, joy and peace. Once you have refreshed, then begin to get clear on what works and what your true goals are. Then prepare to recreate yourself by asking “what is the one next step I need to take to take my life in this new direction”.

What are your experiences of this current eclipse?

Love, Connection and Emotional Integrity | New Moon in Cancer | Vedic Astrology Forecast for August 2nd, 2016

New Moon In CancerHaving explored new perspectives and tried to understand others points of views through the recent Gemini New Moon Lunar Cycle, we now bring that experience into the Sidereal Sign of Cancer.

The Sun entered Cancer after midnight on July 16th. And the New Moon in Cancer will occur on August 2nd around 4:44pm EDT. This starts a new cycle where we bring what we learned from Gemini into the Inner Emotional Heart and search for what inspires love and peace.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon which represents out Inner heart and our capacity for Love. Through the Moon, we learn to Connect to others through the heart. Cancer is also a water sign, which represents our emotional nature. It has a pure nature, motivated to do good things. Through the energy of Cancer, we learn about the nature of emotions. We learn how to be vulnerable in order to open to love and connect to other people.

The journey of the Heart towards love for most is challenging, because being vulnerable means allowing our inner and private nature to be seen. And the fear of vulnerability can cause us to try to control the world around us to keep ourselves feeling safe. Also, in attempts to experience connection and love, in the early stages we may cling to others with the feeling of needing others or an unspoken plea of “please love me!”.

Through the journey into the heart, we learn that clinging doesn’t work. We must learn to open, trust, and surrender. We must learn to allow others to be as they are, and learn also to love our own Self as the secret to experiencing deeper love from others. Through the experience of Cancer we eventually learn that deep and authentic love requires that we learn how to safely open our hearts and allow our true self to be revealed in safe ways. The deepest part of us longs to be fully accepted and seen without judgment, criticism or expectation. We long for unconditional love. But before we can feel safe letting ourselves be seen, we must be willing to see and love our own self unconditionally as well.

Through this cycle of the Cancer New Moon, themes around love, acceptance, vulnerability and connection to others will be activated. And with its placement in Ashlesha nakshatra, it will contain the exploration of how our hidden subconscious nature conditions us to use our emotional heart in connection with others. Ashlesha adds the question “How do I use my connections and emotional nature?” Do I unconsciously or consciously use others for my own personal ends, through manipulation or cunning? Or do I connect out of genuine love, openness and higher intuitive nature?

This New Moon especially invites us to explore our own personal use and the collective use of emotional energy, trust and connection. It invites us to ask ourselves honestly what our motivations are as we engage with others. It encourages us to be brutally honest honest with ourselves so we are emotionally clear and act with integrity. And if we realize we have been manipulating other people, how can we shift that towards accepting them as they are with love and kindness, rather than attempting to control them? How can we invite connection rather than use them to meet our own needs?

These same questions will become more prominent in the collective experience as well. As the political process unfolds and the global economic and government structures change, who is being honest about their motives? And how do we find the balance between bringing truth to light, while avoiding the emotional manipulation of others to see things our way? How can we find deeper compassion for those who have different opinions that our own? How can we learn to connect and love unconditionally, even when another’s values may differ from ours? And how can we retain peace of mind while navigating the political process?

The Moon and sign of Cancer are ultimately trying to evolve us towards discovering a Love and inner stillness that brings us peace. There are no doubts that there are issues with the political system. Emotionally charged propaganda is sometimes used to convince us of “what is right”, even when the deeper motivation for it is not stated out right. But, when the divisive ploys cause the 2 sides to debate and argue amongst themselves, it becomes a distraction from the deeper question of “how can we all work together to find the best solution?”.

“I am right and you are wrong” doesn’t lead to solutions. How can we connection, be authentic, communicate and hear eachother in a way that everyone feels honored, validated and respected even when there is still disagreement? And then discover a path to compromise and meet the underlying needs of both sides?

Mercury entered Leo on July 26th and Venus followed on July 31st. They join Rahu and Jupiter there, which brings our speech and communication (Mercury), our capacity for happiness (Venus), our higher principles (Jupiter) and our unconscious drive to experience (Rahu) all together in the sign of inspiration, leadership and creative expression. This can support a feeling of hope and inspiration, but still has some confusion (Rahu) infused in it, revealing that we are all collectively struggling to figure out a shared sense of purpose and higher principles to operate from. Venus in Leo feels happy, but can also take on a selfish drive like a Queen that demands her happiness is served by her subjects. “Please me now, my subjects!”

This placement of Venus can bring a selfish edge in relationships and the process of compromise needed for 2 people or 2 groups to find a way to create a win-win situation when conflict arises.

The good news is that, out of the confusion we eventually come to clarity. Life is a process of evolving and growth.   It becomes easier when we consciously participate and embrace change.

I also remind you that Mars and Saturn in Scorpio are continuing to invite us collectively to heal and transform our insecurities and are bringing hidden uses of power into the collective awareness so it can be addressed and rebalanced.

So, during this Cancer New Moon window, especially, I encourage you to feel deeply into these questions. How are you using your emotional energy? What are your experiences of giving and receiving love, and do they serve to take you to deeper peace? What emotionally vulnerable spaces have you been hiding and protecting, and how can you nurture them into safety? How can you use Love to heal your inner conflicts? How can you use love to heal the polarity, confusion and divisiveness that is happening in our country and in our world right now?

What are you noticing happening within yourself and in the world around you in relationship to this Cancer New Moon energy?

The above is a general Vedic Astrology Forecast. It discusses the shifts that are happening at the level of the Collective experience, as well as how you can use that Collective energy for your own growth and evolution.

Finding Peace within the Storm | Full Moon in Capricorn | Vedic Astrology Forecast for July 19th, 2016

full moon in capricorn, moon, moonlight

In my Gemini New Moon report, I shared that it began a new Lunar cycle around exploring new perspectives and trying to better understand the perspectives and experiences of others. These Lunar cycles last for almost 30 days and the beginning energy or “seed point” of the New Moon tends to reverberate through the whole cycle. I specifically mentioned that the cycle would begin in Ardra Nakshatra which “is a challenging energy that is like a storm of chaos that destabilizes our old understanding of things. Is brings the opportunity for healing and a return to peace and order, but only after the catharsis and crisis of bringing the deeper imbalance into awareness.” Ardra is known for bringing chaos and destruction and is often linked to natural disasters, floods, earthquakes, etc.

Within days of the New Moon, we began to see chaos and catharsis in the form of the death of Philando Castile by shooting in a traffic stop. We have since seen Police shootings in Dallas, the death of Alton Sterling by police, an attempted Coup in Turkey, the many deaths in Nice, France from a terrorist attack using a truck, and the police shot and killed in Baton Rouge.

We are also continuing to be witness to a presidential political process that is bringing great concern and division to our country.

In early November 2014, Saturn moved into Scorpio bringing great pressure into our collective fears and insecurities. Scorpio also relates to “hidden” things, and hidden uses of power. Saturn has been churning these things as an opportunity to bring them into awareness so they can be healed. Many changes in Planetary positions have been bringing more Religious ideology, confused belief systems and added violence into the collective experience as part of the activation of fears and insecurities.

For the Lunar eclipse on March 23rd, I also share that it was initiating a powerful cycle of transforming and shifting our understanding and relationship to Power. These eclipse cycles tend to reverberate and influence the unfolding collective experience for about 6 months. This shift around Power is still underway, and is being revealed in these events as well including the use of power with military, police and our government. The hidden use of power within the very organizations and structures that we have trusted to protect us and keep us safe. And the collective fears for our safety and the abuse of power showing up both through terrorist attacks, as well as without our own “protectors”.

The New Moon in Gemini energy is has brought more communication and awareness to what has been happening below the surface. Until the deeper cause is seen, we cannot heal the wounds that are the cause. It is inviting deeper conversation and communication around what it happening within our nation and around the world. We are also seeing the primal reactions of violence are’t solving the problem, even while many of us can relate to the anger and rage that might inspire such violence in the first place.

Through the recent events following the New Moon, we have seen Venus shift into Sidereal Cancer on July 7th, following by Mercury on July 10th and the Sun on July 16th. And Mars, which had recently gone direct in Libra, returned back to Scorpio on July 12th.

The Mars transition can potential bring more violence in reaction to fears and insecurities. But, it also invites us to evolve its expression and to choose courage to face our fears and heal through them rather than lashing out in violent defence.

The three planets now in Cancer are bringing our happiness (Venus), our speech and communication (Mercury) and our Power and Sense of Self (Sun) into the deeper emotional heart of feeling. Cancer is a sign where we are invited to feel more deeply, to open our hearts and develop compassion and a more evolved unconditional state of love. We are being invited to feel into the world around us that has been revealed more deeply by the Gemini New Moon, and to allow ourselves to awaken our hearts in an effort to discover a deeper perspective where we can find peace.

This strong Cancer energy may be causing us to pause and really allow ourselves to feel the impact of the recent events, and to amplify the connection to the part of us that just wants to restore peace to our hearts. It may also invite us to connect with the part of us that can have compassion for the victims and families of the recent violent attacks and abuses of power.  And, perhaps, to also find some compassion for those who felt that responding with violence was their only hope. This is not to justify their behavior, but only to attempt to understand the level of pain and fear they must have been in to feel that this was their best solution.

And beyond all of that, to also find compassion for yourself as we all seek to find the best course of action to heal our collective situation.

You may find yourself feeling more emotional or more vulnerable at this time. And as the Full Moon reaches its peak on July 19th around 6:37pm EDT, it marks the mid point in the Lunar Cycle. From the New Moon up until the Full Moon, the energy is expanding and growing stronger. The Full Moon marks the point where the intensity has reached its height, and it begins to dissolve and integrate. As the light reduces over the next 2 weeks, there is a falling away, and we may find that a deeper grieving or sense of loss awakens as we attempt to understand and integrate all of these recent events.

The Full Moon in Capricorn also reminds us of the balance point to the wide open, vulnerable feeling space of Cancer. In Capricorn, we are reminded that creating some emotional boundaries and learning to regulate the level of our vulnerability is a part of learning to safely navigate the world. Through this, we learn to stabilize our emotions and to also learn to set aside emotions when they do not serve us. For instance, many violent acts come out of a primal reaction to deep emotion. By learning how to stabilize them, we can more clearly and rationally assess the best and most effective way to respond to what we are feeling.

As we collectively open deeper into our hearts and feel the effects of what is happening around us, try to find compassion and peace in healthy ways. Allow yourself to give and receive love with the important people in your life, to celebrate the loving connections that you have. Try to find compassion for those who have been more directly involved with the recent events as well.

It is Love and acceptance that will ultimately heal our global situation. The more you can contribute to that and model it for your Self and others, the deeper the healing effect for our planet. The more we stay in fear, the longer it will take to heal our world.

Use this time to feel, but also stabilize. To integrate and be with what has been moving through you. And also remind yourself that you are safe in this moment. The events we are witnessing are a part of the Purification and healing process that our collective world is going through. We can only heal what we become aware of, and these events are bringing the hidden forces into our awareness. They have been there for a long time. Do not imagine that “things are getting worse”. Instead realize that we must be able to face the truth before it can be transformed.

How are you experiencing these energies in your life?

Finding Meaning Through New Experiences | Full Moon in Sagittarius  | Vedic Astrology Forecast for June 20th, 2016

FullMoonOverWaterIn the last week, two planets have moved into Sidereal Gemini.  Venus on June 12th and the Sun shifted on June 14th.

This brings our Soul’s Power (Sun) and our capacity for happiness (Venus) into Gemini’s realm   of playfulness, curiosity and creativity.  Gemini is an air sign, showing its social and mental nature.  It is ruled by Mercury which shows its quick minded intellect and skilled speech and communication.

Gemini is playful, humorous and usually pretty unattached.  It loves new experiences, and has a wonderful capacity to see things from multiple perspectives.  In its own energy, it can be challenged to stick with one idea or one experiences for very long, as it is likely to get bored and then rush off for the next thing.

With Sun and Venus here, you may be finding yourself being drawn to eploring new ideas or experiences.  Perhaps you are just in the mood to be entertained.  Perhaps you are feeling a little open to new ways of exploring pleasure and happiness.  Perhaps you are just feeling a little more free and playful.

On a potentially challenged side, you may also be feeling distracted or having trouble focusing on what you want to manifest in your life.  Or frustrate as you notice others in that state.  Maybe work needs to get done, and your mind is pulling you towards what feels fun instead.

On June 20th around 7am the Moon will be full in Sagittarius.  This is the opposite position from Gemini, and reveals the balancing energy needed to best utilize the Gemini energy.

While our power and happiness is in Gemini, the Moon shows that our mind and emotional heart are are connected to a deeper sense of purpose and seeking meaning.

Left to its own devices, Gemini will just bounce from one idea and experience to another.  The novelty of each perspective will be its own satisfaction.  But, with the Moon in Sagittarius we are invited to find deeper meaning to the experiences and ideas we encounter.  They are not just for fun and entertainment, or even just intellectual stimulation. Instead they become education, ideas and experiences which inform us about the deeper teachings and nature of ourselves and there world around us.

So, you may be finding yourself learning something or exploring something that will be integrated into your own understanding of life and the bigger picture beyond just our human existence.  This could be an intentional learning, or perhaps you will just wax a little more philosophical about the experiences that Gemini pulls you into.

On June 17th, Mars retrograde returned to Libra.  This placement can bring some agitation to relationships right now.  And it also places an aspect on Mercury in Taurus, which shows that our speech, communication and intellect may also feel frustrated.  Since Mercury is the ruler of Gemini, maybe the seeking of fun and new experiences feels agitated instead of enjoyable right now.

For my own experience, I found myself at a weekend training program leading into the full Moon window. So, I was learning and exploring new ideas.  And I was also integrating what I learned into my own understanding of purpose and higher teachings. That shows the balance of Gemini and Sagittarius happening.

The group of people attending were all very friendly and very social.  The workshop leader commented that she had never seen a group of people in her workshops be so social with each other before.  It was the first time she could ever remember that she had to go find all the participants and get them to stop talking to each other when it was time to start back up.  Additionally,  there were many side tangents and unexpected conversations within the group during formal class time.  All of this reflects the influence of Gemini.

I invite you to notice what is happening within you and around you also. What is showing up that reflects these energies for you?

The above is a general Vedic Astrology Forecast. It discusses the shifts that are happening at the level of the Collective experience, as well as how you can use that Collective energy for your own growth and evolution.
